Our Story

We’re Jenn and Dustin, owners and operators of Minnie Farms, a small-scale market farm north of Houghton in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula where we grow culinary foods for local markets, chefs, and community members.

In 2016, we moved from the mountains of the Pacific Northwest to pursue our dream of someday owning land here in the Keweenaw. For the first few years we rented a home and were lucky enough to gain experience working on an established farm. In the Fall of 2018 we purchased our home in Mohawk on a small ⅓ acre lot where Minnie Farms would begin to take shape over the next few years. Then, in 2021 the same farm we had been working at gave us the opportunity to farm some of their land. This allowed us to expand our sales to farmers markets, restaurants, and grocery stores. Later that Fall our family acquired 40-acres of prime farmland in Lake Linden, giving us the blank canvas we had been looking for to transform Minnie Farms from a hobby into a real business.

From our year-round aquaponics system, to the way we utilize space, everything we do is rooted in sustainability. The way we grow our food is vital to us.

We acknowledge our roots by featuring two influential family members in our branding.

Minnie is Jenn’s Great-Grandmother who, we discovered shortly after moving to the area, spent her childhood about five minutes down the road. When it came to naming the farm, we thought honoring our family ties to the land just felt right.

Minnie & Layla

So, if Minnie is Jenn’s grandmother? Who is the dog in your logo?

That’s Layla! Our spunky, blind, and perfect pup. She’s the reason we started farming. We dreamt of a place where she could roam free and eat as many carrots (her favorite) as she could desire. Layla passed away in January of 2022 but we’re reminded of her impact on our lives each day.
